I found this a very satisfying read. It’s a huge book, over 500 pages to get lost in, and covers many themes within its serpentine plot.
I enjoyed the sense of danger compounded by an atmosphere of absolute distrust and fatal suspicion.
That it was not precisely historically accurate, and indeed part shaggy dog story, bothered me not one jot. It was a good old fashioned rollicking tale well told. I believe fans of the Game of Thrones series would likely appreciate this book too.
