I found this book to be quite a difficult read at first at first blush. Mostly because I found the main character Tom so unlikeable. I sympathised with his situation but gasped out loud at just how self-obsessed and plain rude he could be.
The other main character Evie was no more likeable either, her pretentious and constant pop references were irritating, and often mirrored by Tom too.
However, as the novel progressed, and from around the halfway mark I began to enjoy the book an awful lot more. The plot began to develop. It was no longer merely a duologue between two damaged but needy people, but an engaging and satisfying read, leading to a crafty denouement.
