    I really enjoyed this.

It was alien and dense but had a rhythmic beauty that made it easy to devour. Short chapters too, always a plus in my opinion.

The central theme of defining your own history worked well within the context of the gold rush years, and even when the story roved down well trodden paths, it did so with a unique perspective. That said some of the moments when a secret or uncovered motive told us something new about the characters and their actions were truly unexpected and powerful.
